Iris Giclée

Iris Giclée (pronounced zhee-clay) printmaking offers one of the highest quality of
accuracy and richness of color available in any reproduction technique. Prominent
art museums such as the Moma, Guggenheim, Smithsonian, Los Angeles Museum of
Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York have hosted
exhibitions featuring Iris Giclées. Iris Giclées have been displayed in galleries
around the world. Renowned Giclee artists include Andrew and Jamie Wyeth, David
Hockney and Robert Rauschenberg.

The patented printing technology utilizes microscopically fine droplets of ink to
form the image. A print can consist of nearly 20 billion ink droplets. The
microscopic droplets of ink vary in size (approximately the size of a red blood cell)
and density. This unique patented feature produces a near continuous tone image,
smoother gradation between tones, and a more finely differentiated color palette.
Iris Giclée printmaking provides a luminosity and brilliance that represent the
artist’s original work better than any reproduction technique available today. Offset
Lithography (i.e. commercial printing) is limited to the traditional four-color
process and is normally printed on 80 pound coated stock paper. This does not
approach the quality of an Iris Giclée printed on 100 percent rag paper. Iris Giclée
printmaking should not be confused with color Xerox copies (laser prints) which
have neither the fine resolution, color quality, skilled color professionals working
with the artist, nor longevity suitable for framing.
The Equipoise ink set is used in our printmaking process. This ink set has been
extensively tested by Wilhelm Imaging Research, Inc., an independent research firm
in Grinnel, Iowa. Wilhelm Imaging Research is the leading authority in testing
imaging materials (inks, papers, etc.) for longevity. Equipoise is the longest lasting
ink set available today that produces a very wide color gamut.
Our combination of sophisticated printmaking techniques and superior ink and
paper provide you with a museum quality limited edition print.
